ADORABLE Pancake had a rough start to life.  He was turned into the local kill shelter when he was 6 months old by a backyard breeder.  The shelter veterinarian determined he had a level 5 heart murmur (5 out of 6).  We did tests and ultrasounds, but no one could say for sure what was causing the murmur.  Dr. Nat at Safe Harbor Animal Hospital in Pensacola, FL operated on Pancake hoping it was something that could be fixed.  Poor Pancake's heart stopped three times during the operation, but Dr. Nat massaged it into starting again every time.  Then we got the news we were hoping for - the murmur was caused by a PDA which is a birth defect where an artery that oxygenates the blood in utero doesn't close after birth.  This artery is located outside of the heart so it was something that could be fixed.  Even better news, now that the PDA is closed off, the heart murmur is gone!  Pancake should live a happy, healthy, normal life!  HOORAY!  Now to find him a furever home!

Pancake is a Parson Russell Terrier puppy that weight about 8lbs.  It is possible that he is full blood, but we'll never know, and frankly we don't care.  He's a super sweet little dog that doesn't not act like he had heart surgery on the 24th of January.  He loves to run! run! run!  He's also a lap dog and will sleep on your chest.  Pancake is crate and house-trained.  He's a smart boy and does has some stereotypical terrier traits, like chewing on things left lying around.  But he's only 8 months old and still learning.  He gets along well with other dogs and is good around cats.  He can be a little shy around new people, but warms up quick.  He was so scared at the shelter when pulled in December 2014, he pooped every time he was picked up.  He's come a long way in a short time.  Pancake does have some separation anxiety that he may outgrow once settled into a furever home.  Since he is a terrier, it would be best for him to be in a home where he will get a lot of attention and activity.  He is a very active puppy and very much wants someone to play with.  He is good about playing by himself too.  He loves his toys and to squiggle on in back on the couch after running around the room.  He's become a happy doggie!  The best kind!

Pancake is up-to-date on his shots and is heartworm negative.  He's not neutered yet because we have to wait for his body to completely recover from his heart surgery.  His adoption fee is $175, which includes his neuter surgery once we get the OK to do it from Dr. Nat.
